MLS Starting 11

The MLS has started a youth oriented web site called MLS Starting 11. It’s definitely worth a look. In my experience, kids respond really well to this kind of interaction and (hopefully) will be inspired to play at a higher level. I encourage you to check it out.

New 2010 Committee Members

Last year, I took a moment to welcome new members. We are growing the committee as we add depth and breadth to the event - so expect to see this each year. I am pleased again to announce several new members to the tournament committee:

U12 Game Format Survey Results

Several days ago I asked what game format you preferred for U12 games, 8 versus 8 or 11 versus 11. The survey was sent out over the TSFSI Twitter account, on the Troy Strawberry Festival Soccer Invitational Facebook Page. Most importantly, the teams that played at U11 last year and the teams that played at U10 two years ago received e-mails through the tournament site.

Under 12 Format

One of the more common questions I receive as a tournament director regards the number of players competing at the under 12 (u12) age level. Local league play transitions from 8v8 at the u12 level to full sided (11v11) at the under 13 level. Some teams take the position that a late spring tournament is a great opportunity to prepare for the fall season. Other u12 teams prefer to stick to the familiar format and test themselves based on the game format they have been playing with in their spring league.

Volunteer Hours for 2009

We are close to having the final answer on the volunteer hours invested in 2009.  It looks as though the club invested approximately 320 hours and the high school soccer parents invested approximately 260.  If those numbers remain true, we'll be distributing approximately 53% of the money earned by the tournament to the club and the balance to the soccer parents.

Ashley Plumb Winners for 2009

It's taken me a little bit of effort and Nancy Thompson alot, but we finally have the Ashley Plumb Award Winners (as reported by the coaches) posted on the web site.  As always, please let us know if you need any corrections or additional names included.

Back of the Net Tournament Pod Cast

Earlier this year I had the chance to sit down for a phone interview to promote this event.  They have posted the promotional pod cast on Back of the Net .

New 2009 Committee Members!

The most important role I fill is that of recruiter. If I get good people filling important roles - the tournament will be successful. My predecessor left a great committee and I work hard to keep it that way. I feel fortunate this year to have staffed most (but not all) of the critical roles.

I'm still working on the third new committee member so I'll leave that news for another day. The good news for this year is that we have two new individuals filling important roles on the committee:
